Adoption Process
Written Application - upon request a rescue
representative will mail, email or fax the application to
you. This application is to be completed and the hard copy
is to be returned via mail to the rescue coordinator. At
this time, please enclose the non refundable application fee
in the amount of $25 made payable to “Great Dane Club of
Oxford, Inc. (Ct)”
Phone Interview - once we received your completed
application, a rescue representative will contact you by
telephone in order to discuss details regarding our program
& your application. This is also a perfect time to get any
questions you might have answered.
Reference Checks - All references will be checked. We
will contact your vet for a reference in addition to two
personal references. Please notify them so they are prepared
for our call.
Home Visit – a volunteer will come to your home and
visit with you to discuss the care of Great Danes. The
representative will also make sure the home is suitable and
make suggestions for Dane proofing your home. Please be
advised, your home visit does not mean you are approved.
Approval – after the above steps are completed, all
your info will be reviewed and a decision will be made about
adoption. Your area coordinator will help guide you to the
appropriate dog for your family. You will be notified one of
the following within 15 days from a completed application
process
- approved for immediate placement of a Dane in your
home
- wait listed for a Dane that will suit you and or
your home
- Application was denied/refused – therefore GDCO
found you or your home for one reason or another
unsuitable for a rescue Dane. An explanation will be
provided.
Contract - For the protection of the Great
Danes we place, everyone that adopts a Great Dane from
GDCO~R will be required to sign an adoption contract. The
policies and procedures of the contract will be enforced.
Adoption fees
- Great Danes between the ages of 0 and 6 years of age:
$350 adoption fee
- Great Danes 7 years of age or older:
$100 adoption fee
