Dedicated to the Great Dane

Great Dane Club of Oxford, INC. (CT) ~ Rescue
Expects an adoptive home to fulfill the following:

  • Submit application and processing fee, supply 3 references, complete phone interview, and home visit.
  • Have no children under the age of 6 (unless you have or previously owned a Dane)
  • If for any reason, an adopting family must give up a rescued dog, the dog must be returned to GDCO~Rescue
  • We require two half hour visits to get to know your potential new companion. We ask you make arrangements to visit your new Dane (when approved) at that Dane's foster home, unless other mutual arrangements have been made between you and the rescue committee.
  • Please give us at least two weeks to process your application. This means asking your references to expect our call and to be sure they call us back if needed in order to prevent delays. Please also call your vet and give permission for them to speak with us when we call – this will speed up the process
  • Please notify us of what you are looking for – color, age, personality type etc…
  • To provide a loving indoor home for your new Dane family member. This also includes providing quality food, routine medical care and 1 required obedience class
  • After adoption you will receive follow up calls on your dog. You are REQUIRED to return these calls
  • All Danes in rescue will be will have the following health checks performed prior to placement:

      • spayed or neutered prior to placement/ paid by the GDCO ~Rescue, unless medical reasons prevent it in which case, the new owner will contractually agree to have it done when it is safe.
      • Heartworm tested and found negative or treated and on prevention and treated by GDCO~Rescue while in our care
      • Tested for Lyme and treated by GDCO~Rescue while in our care
      • Brought current on vaccinations and immunizations

  • Evaluated and placed in a foster home for temperament and assessment of placement needs
  • During the interview process and/or home visit, applicants will be instructed as to the limits of liability of Rescue GDCO~Rescue and on responsibility of dog ownership, i.e. medical issues, housing, training
